Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has extended the Renewed Hope Initiative food outreach programme to Bauchi State, providing food items and financial support for vulnerable groups.
The items were handed over to Bauchi State First Lady Aisha Bala Mohammed for onward distribution.
Oluremi Tinubu said the food outreach programme was launched in March 2024 to assist people with disabilities and other vulnerable households.
Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, the First Lady said the initiative was intended to complement federal social investment efforts.
She also highlighted the National Community Food Bank Programme, which targets food insecurity, malnutrition and child health.
The First Lady said food outreach had reached 28 states and the Federal Capital Territory before Bauchi became the 29th beneficiary.
Katsina and Akwa Ibom were identified as the next states scheduled to receive the intervention.
The programme has received recurring food donations from the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative and another donor that chose not to be publicly identified.
Bauchi State First Lady Aisha Bala Mohammed said the support had arrived at a time when many families were under economic pressure.
She announced additional cash support for different categories of beneficiaries, including children, orphanages, people with special needs, Almajirai and remand homes.
The specific allocations were presented as part of the state implementation of the intervention.
Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by Deputy Governor Muhammad Auwal Jatau, praised the humanitarian programme and said it would provide immediate relief to vulnerable families.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the assistance.
The Renewed Hope Initiative said the wider objective was to combine food support with programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of women, children and disadvantaged Nigerians.
