The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded major seizures and arrests in operations across Nigeria, including the arrest of a 101-year-old woman for alleged involvement in the sale of cannabis and the interception of cocaine concealed in cassava flour popularly known as fufu.
The agency also seized large consignments of Loud, a potent form of synthetic cannabis, worth more than N4.4 billion at the Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos.
In one of the most unusual cases, NDLEA operatives on Saturday, August 15, 2026, arrested 101-year-old Esther Ogunmabo in Ilisan, Ogun State, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis packaged in retail sachets.
The agency said the centenarian admitted that she sold the illicit substance to residents in the community.
Ogunmabo reportedly told investigators that she turned to the drug trade after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire.
She allegedly disclosed that one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, supplied the cannabis to her every four days, which she subsequently sold in small quantities.
Following her arrest, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), directed that the 101-year-old suspect be granted bail and referred for counselling because of her advanced age.
The agency, however, arrested the daughter alleged to have been supplying the illicit substance.
The development was part of a series of interceptions and arrests recorded by NDLEA operatives at Nigeria’s land and maritime borders as the agency intensifies its crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.
Among the operations was the interception of cocaine concealed in edible cassava flour, as well as the seizure of substantial quantities of Loud at the Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos.
The NDLEA said the seizures and arrests reflected its continued efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent illicit substances from entering or being distributed across the country.
