Abiodun Welcomes PDP and ADC Defectors into APC ahead of 2027

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has formally received hundreds of former Peoples Democratic Party and African Democratic Congress members into the All Progressives Congress in Ogun East.

The reception was held at the Ojude Oba carnival ground in Ijebu Ode and included party leaders and supporters from the nine local government areas in the senatorial district.

Abiodun told the defectors they would be treated as full members of the APC and urged them to return to their wards to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general election.

The governor said the performance of his administration would provide the basis for the party’s campaign.

He highlighted road construction and other infrastructure projects across Ogun East.

Abiodun said more than 100 roads had been constructed in the senatorial district, including about 26 in Ijebu Ode.

He also pointed to the Gateway International Airport, the proposed Olokola Deep Sea Port, the Olokola Kajola Gas Industrial Free Zone and planned oil exploration in Ogun Waterside.

The governor announced that reconstruction of the Ago Iwoye Ibadan Road would be flagged off with the Minister of Works.

Other road projects cited included the Ilishan Ago Iwoye Ijebu Igbo Road, Okun Owa Road, Aiyepe Odogbolu Road and Ikenne Aiyepe Road.

Abiodun also expressed confidence that Ogun could eventually join Nigeria’s oil producing states.

He praised President Bola Tinubu for federal support to infrastructure projects in the state and predicted strong South West backing for the President in 2027.

Those comments represent the governor’s political assessment and campaign position.

Ogun APC Chairman Yemi Sanusi said the influx of opposition members reflected confidence in the administration.

Several defectors said they joined the ruling party because of the governor’s performance and what they described as his accommodating political style.

The new members pledged to work for the APC in the coming election cycle.
