The Lagos and Ogun State Governments have declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate the 2026 Isese Day celebration.
The announcements were contained in separate statements issued by officials of the two state governments.
The declaration is aimed at allowing residents to participate in activities marking Isese Day, an annual celebration associated with the traditional religious and cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.
The Isese celebration provides an opportunity for practitioners and cultural enthusiasts to promote and preserve indigenous traditions, values and cultural practices.
The state governments are expected to use the occasion to encourage peaceful celebrations and greater appreciation of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
Residents in Lagos and Ogun are therefore expected to observe the public holiday on Thursday, August 20, while normal official activities are expected to resume thereafter.
