The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission has completed its review of Nigeria’s revenue allocation formula and concluded work on the remuneration framework for political and public office holders.
RMAFC Chairman Mohammed Bello Shehu said the proposals were now ready for consideration by the relevant authorities.
The revenue formula review followed consultations with the Federal Government, states, local governments, technical experts and other stakeholders.
The commission also studied revenue patterns, responsibilities across the three tiers of government and approaches used in other federal systems.
Shehu said the exercise produced a harmonised report and proposed legislation intended to create a more equitable and sustainable system for sharing revenue.
The revenue allocation formula determines how funds in the Federation Account are distributed among the Federal Government, states and local governments.
RMAFC has also completed work on salary and allowance reviews for executive and legislative political office holders.
The review of judicial salaries had earlier resulted in the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Act 2025.
A separate executive bill covering political and public office holders is expected to proceed to the National Assembly.
Shehu said any increase in remuneration should be matched by stronger performance and accountability.
The commission has also intensified monitoring of the 13 per cent derivation principle for oil producing states.
It is using production verification, geospatial mapping and interagency cooperation to resolve disputes over the location and ownership of oil wells.
RMAFC has worked with petroleum regulators, the national oil company, the National Boundary Commission and the Office of the Surveyor General.
The commission is also examining opportunities to improve non oil revenue through satellite and geospatial technology.
Shehu said crude theft, vandalism and production losses remained major threats to the amount of revenue available for distribution across the federation.
