Minister of Works David Umahi has said the scale of road construction across Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu is transforming connectivity and economic activity in several parts of the country.
Umahi spoke while inspecting the Calabar Ebonyi Benue Kogi Nasarawa Abuja Superhighway, one of the Federal Government’s major infrastructure projects.
He said the road programme would improve commerce, security and movement between regions that had previously been separated by long travel times and poor transport links.
The minister argued that the ongoing investment was also helping address longstanding complaints about infrastructure gaps in the South East.
Umahi said federal road projects were being undertaken across the country and urged the media to provide Nigerians with clearer information about their expected economic and social impact.
He cited the Aba Ikot Ekpene road and sections of the superhighway under construction across Ebonyi as examples.
The inspected section covers communities including Ndibe Beach, Timber Shade, Onueke and parts of Ezza South, Ezza North and Ebonyi Local Government Area.
Umahi said an 8.9 kilometre realignment around Afikpo was also being developed, with plans to make the section a dual carriageway.
Another stretch at Abaomege is being dualised to improve traffic flow and the appearance of the town.
The minister also highlighted planned flyovers at Onueke, Ukwuachi and Offia Nwali.
According to him, the first major section of the superhighway runs from Cross River through Ebonyi toward the Benue boundary, while another awarded section will continue through Benue, parts of Enugu and Kogi before connecting with Nasarawa and Abuja.
Umahi said improved road links would help bring markets and communities closer together and support stronger regional integration.
He also commended the contractor for the pace and quality of work recorded since his previous inspection.
