The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states following court judgments directing their reinstatement.
The affected constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, as well as Yagba West II in Kogi State.
INEC disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
Primaries Scheduled for August 21–25
The commission said political parties have been given August 21 to 25, 2026, to conduct primaries for candidates seeking to contest the restored constituencies.
INEC noted that the period coincides with the dates already set aside for party primaries ahead of bye-elections to fill vacancies in several constituencies across the country.
These include the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State; Udu State Constituency in Delta State; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.
The electoral body directed political parties intending to conduct primaries for the restored constituencies to submit formal notices of their schedules to the commission ahead of the exercise.
2027 Election Timetable Remains Applicable
INEC clarified that all other timelines and activities contained in its previously published revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election would apply to the four restored constituencies.
The commission said the restoration followed court judgments ordering the reinstatement of the constituencies that had previously been suppressed.
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting credible, inclusive and transparent elections, urging political parties and other stakeholders to comply with the established electoral timetable.
“The Commission remains committed to ensuring credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes,” the statement said.
