NIDEC 2026 Targets Investment Deals and Diaspora Capital in Toronto

The Federal Government says the 2026 Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference in Toronto is intended to produce concrete investment agreements rather than serve as a ceremonial foreign engagement.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sola Enikanolaiye said the four day conference would focus on attracting investment, creating jobs and increasing foreign exchange inflows.

He said the event aligned with the administration’s foreign policy priorities covering demography, development, democracy and the diaspora.

A high level Nigerian delegation is expected to engage Canadian officials and investors on trade agreements, small business partnerships and access to North American markets.

Economic agencies including the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Nigerian Export Promotion Council and Nigeria Revenue Service are participating.

Five state governors are also expected to present opportunities in infrastructure, agriculture, technology and mining.

The government said the conference would promote diaspora investment vehicles and policies intended to make it easier for Nigerians abroad to invest in domestic projects.

Officials also plan to seek partnerships in financial technology, digital innovation and information technology skills.

Enikanolaiye said Nigeria received more than $20 billion in diaspora remittances in the previous year and wanted to convert more of that flow into equity, factories and businesses.

NIDEC 2026 is scheduled for August 12 to August 15 in Toronto under the theme Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad.

The conference is being organised with the involvement of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and Nigerian and Canadian diplomatic missions.
