Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal has launched another attack on African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar while criticising the party’s handling of its Adamawa governorship ticket.
In a social media post, Lawal compared the ADC presidential candidacy and the disputed Adamawa selection process to cheap products from an online marketplace.
His criticism centred on his claim that Umar Suleiman, whom he said won the ADC governorship primary, was replaced with Tukur Moddibo.
Lawal alleged that the substitution resulted from pressure by Atiku and was influenced by ethnic and religious considerations.
He described Suleiman as a strong candidate and argued that removing him weakened the party.
The former SGF also claimed the decision violated the Electoral Act 2026, the ADC Constitution and the party’s primary election guidelines.
He repeated his intention to challenge the matter in court.
Lawal predicted that voters in Adamawa could reject both the ADC and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidates.
