MTN Nigeria says it will continue investing heavily in network expansion and optimisation as it marks 25 years of operations in the country.
The company said additional investment would focus on improving coverage, capacity and overall service quality for millions of subscribers.
General Manager for Network Access Planning and Optimisation, Nasiru Hayatu, said continuous network development had remained central to MTN’s operations since entering the Nigerian market.
He explained that the company uses forecasting and network planning tools to identify areas requiring additional capacity and infrastructure.
Chief Financial Officer Modupe Kadri said MTN invested more than N1.6 trillion over the past 18 months in network expansion, coverage, capacity and customer experience.
She said capital expenditure rose sharply in the first quarter of 2026 as the company accelerated deployment to ease congestion and improve service quality.
MTN also said it would work with device manufacturers to encourage the production of more affordable fifth generation mobile devices rather than enter device manufacturing directly.
The company said rapid technological changes made partnerships with equipment manufacturers a more practical approach.
On artificial intelligence, MTN said it was exploring ways to use emerging technology to improve efficiency, understand customer behaviour and deliver more targeted services.
The telecom company said its long term objective remained to stay at the forefront of technology while improving the quality of connectivity available to Nigerian consumers and businesses.
