Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said about 40,000 residents received business tools through the state’s Micro Enterprise Support Initiative over the past seven years.
The governor spoke during the 2026 edition of the program organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Ikeja.
Beneficiaries received equipment for tailoring, catering, hairdressing, photography, agricultural processing, food trading and other small businesses.
Sanwo-Olu said the initiative was designed to reduce poverty, expand economic inclusion and help residents build sustainable businesses.
He said the program reflected the government’s commitment to creating opportunities rather than encouraging dependency.
According to him, the initiative supports the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda by providing artisans, traders, women and young entrepreneurs with tools to generate income and create jobs.
The governor urged beneficiaries to use the equipment productively, expand their businesses and support their families and communities.
Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat encouraged participants to register with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund for possible financing as their businesses grew.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Bolaji Dada said the state would continue supporting skills development and women’s economic empowerment.
Beneficiaries thanked the government for the training and business support they received.
