The All Progressives Congress has told Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders for his political troubles, with National Secretary Ajibola Bashiru saying in an interview ahead of the August 15 governorship election that Adeleke should instead run an issue based campaign if he genuinely has achievements to show the people of Osun.
Adeleke had, during a campaign appearance, blamed Tinubu and immediate past governor Adegboyega Oyetola for political violence in the state, also calling on the president not to overlook alleged extrajudicial killings occurring there and warning against a repeat of the 1983 political crisis. Bashiru said the governor’s outburst stems from fear of imminent defeat, questioning why a sitting governor would be crying about rigging in an election still eleven days away. The state APC chapter also accused Adeleke and the Accord Party of needlessly blaming Tinubu and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola for his political troubles. In a statement, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said the visibly disorganized governor reminded President Tinubu that he saw no reason for what he called his political persecution, despite having previously endorsed him as the presidential candidate of the Accord Party for the 2027 election.
Separately, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin predicted that APC candidate Munirudeen Oyebamiji would emerge victorious in the governorship election, speaking at the inaugural meeting of the APC National Campaign Council for the Osun election in Abuja. “With the overwhelming support of the good people of Osun State across all 30 local government areas, we are confident that, by the grace of God, our candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, will emerge victorious in the governorship election scheduled for August 15 by the Independent National Electoral Commission,” he said. “We sincerely appreciate the people of Osun State for their growing support and confidence in our candidate and party as we approach election day.”
Oyebamiji claims 27 of 30 local government areas will back APC
APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji claimed that 27 of the 30 local government areas in Osun State, including the Modakeke office, visited by his campaign group had pledged their votes to him ahead of August 15. He made the claim during a campaign tour of the Ayedade, Irewole and Isokan federal constituency, where he visited the Akire of Ikire, Oba Olanrewaju Tajudeen Akinola, at his palace. He told residents of the constituency that his administration, if elected, would govern inclusively for all, and that all 332 wards in the state would benefit from his administration in every respect. He called for calm from stakeholders and urged voters to reject intimidation, threats and violence in favor of a peaceful election, while promising to revive all moribund educational institutions in the state to ensure quality education.
