Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom after spending one week in captivity following his abduction by suspected bandits.
A family member confirmed the judge’s release on Monday, disclosing that he had safely returned home just hours before speaking with journalists.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home after spending one week with the bandits,” the family member said.
The family expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies and residents of the state for their prayers, support and solidarity throughout the period of Justice Bunza’s captivity.
“We sincerely thank the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies and the good people of Kebbi State who stood by us, offered prayers and showed concern during this difficult period. Your support gave us strength, and we remain deeply grateful,” the source added.
The family, however, said details surrounding the circumstances of the judge’s release would be disclosed at a later time.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kebbi State Judiciary nor security agencies had issued an official statement confirming the development.
Justice Bunza’s abduction last week sparked widespread concern within the legal community and across Kebbi State, prompting calls from stakeholders and members of the public for his safe and unconditional release.
