Asaba Specialist Hospital has begun Magnetic Resonance Imaging services following the installation of a Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium free MRI scanner, making it the first healthcare facility in Nigeria to deploy the advanced diagnostic technology.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Peace Ighosewe, announced the development in a statement, describing it as a significant improvement in healthcare delivery in Delta State.
Ighosewe commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for investing in the equipment, saying the acquisition demonstrated the administration’s commitment to improving access to modern and specialised medical services.
To mark the commencement of the new service, the hospital offered free MRI scans to patients for two days. More than 10 patients benefited from the initiative before it ended on Friday.
According to the Chief Medical Director, the new scanner will expand access to advanced medical imaging, reduce the need for patients to travel outside Delta State for MRI examinations and support faster and more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
She explained that the Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium free MRI system represents a major advancement in diagnostic imaging and will strengthen the hospital’s capacity to manage a wide range of medical conditions.
Ighosewe reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing accessible, modern and patient focused healthcare, noting that the initiative was in line with the Oborevwori administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda for improving critical sectors, including healthcare.
She assured residents that the hospital would continue to combine modern technology with skilled medical personnel to improve health outcomes and deliver quality services across the state.
