NNPP and NDC Trade Accusations Over Alleged Obi Kwankwaso Alliance

The New Nigeria People’s Party and the Nigeria Democratic Congress have accused each other of maneuvering around a possible alliance involving presidential candidate Peter Obi and running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 election.

NNPP National Chairman Major Agbo alleged that the party’s former leadership had planned to merge its structure into the coalition supporting Obi and Kwankwaso before being replaced, describing the move as driven by self interest. He maintained that the NNPP’s current placeholder presidential candidate exists only to meet electoral deadlines, not to signal any alliance with the NDC or the ruling APC.

NDC Deputy National Publicity Secretary Abdulmumin Abdulsalam rejected the claims, saying his party has no formal arrangement with the NNPP and describing the coalition’s political momentum as strong enough to stand on its own.
