President Bola Tinubu has appointed Wasiu Olanrewaju Smart, 40, as his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters for the House of Representatives, replacing Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who resigned earlier this year to contest an elective position in his home state.

According to a statement from presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga, the president expressed confidence that Olanrewaju Smart would use his experience to strengthen coordination between the presidency, government agencies and the House of Representatives, with the appointment taking immediate effect.

Olanrewaju Smart holds a doctorate in educational management from Lead City University and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University, where he was an Edward Mason Fellow in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. His career in the National Assembly spanned roles from research assistant to the House Minority and Majority Leaders through to Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House across the 9th and 10th Assemblies, before joining the presidency in 2023 as Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental Affairs, a position he held until his latest appointment.
