Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed appreciation to the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, for his continuous guidance and support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Mrs Tinubu made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Sultan’s palace in Sokoto on Saturday, where she said she came primarily to thank the revered traditional ruler for his invaluable counsel since the inception of the current administration.
In a statement issued by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady described the relationship between their families as longstanding and praised the Sultan for consistently offering wise counsel.
She noted that the monarch has remained a trusted voice, “always pointing the administration in the right direction.”
Speaking during the visit, the Sultan emphasized the importance of seeking divine intervention in addressing the country’s security challenges and moral decline.
“As leaders, there is a need to keep seeking divine intervention, especially for those groups of people who have been perpetrating evil in the land,” he said.
He prayed for those involved in criminal activities to embrace genuine repentance and become responsible members of society.
The Sultan also commended the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), describing it as a people-focused intervention that has positively impacted millions of Nigerians across the country.
“The programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative have touched the lives of millions of Nigerians,” he said.
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, who accompanied the First Lady during the visit, also lauded the initiative, saying its interventions are improving the lives of women, children, youths and families.
He described the RHI as a transformative programme designed to uplift vulnerable groups and complement the government’s development efforts.
The visit concluded with special prayers led by Islamic scholars (Ulama) for Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu, the First Lady, Governor Ahmad Aliyu, the Sultan, and the people of Sokoto State, with prayers for peace, unity and national progress.
