The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has rejected the Osun State Government’s decision to suspend the union’s operations across the state, insisting that Governor Ademola Adeleke lacks the constitutional authority to take such action.
MC Oluomo made the assertion while reacting to Governor Adeleke’s directive ordering the immediate suspension of all NURTW activities in motor parks across Osun State.
The Osun State Government had on Thursday announced the suspension, directing the union to halt operations at motor parks pending further notice.
Responding to the directive, the NURTW president argued that the union is a legally registered national organisation whose activities cannot be suspended by a state governor.
“No governor has such power,” MC Oluomo said, maintaining that only the appropriate legal and regulatory authorities could take decisions affecting the union’s operations nationwide.
He described the governor’s action as unconstitutional and vowed that the union would take necessary steps to protect its rights and lawful operations.
The development is the latest twist in the ongoing dispute over the control and management of motor parks in Osun State.
Neither the Osun State Government nor the NURTW had indicated whether further dialogue would be initiated to resolve the disagreement.
