A dispute is emerging within the Accord Party over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s position that the party should not field a presidential candidate against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Adeleke has been quoted saying the party would forgo fielding a presidential candidate because of its support for Tinubu’s reelection bid. Osun State Accord Chairman Victor Akande, speaking on a radio programme, warned the governor that such a stance could put his own reelection at risk.

Separately, the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement said Adeleke’s position could similarly become a liability for the governor’s reelection campaign this year. In a statement from the movement’s South West Coordinator, Abass Olaniyi, the group said comments attributed to the Osun Accord chairman regarding Adeleke’s endorsement of Tinubu and the party’s own presidential candidate, Gbenga Hashim, were based on fabricated documents and a distortion of the timeline of events. The statement said that while Adeleke’s endorsement of Tinubu carried over from his time in the PDP, the Accord Party’s national leadership had already signaled its own presidential direction by actively courting Gbenga Olawepo Hashim to join the party and contest the 2027 election.
