The Federal Road Safety Corps has launched a nationwide Zonal Special Intervention Patrol, rolling out twelve separately coded operations across its zonal commands to tackle the most persistent causes of road crashes in different parts of the country.
The corps said that starting July 20, all twelve zonal commands would simultaneously execute operations tailored to the specific road safety challenges in their regions, ranging from Operation Fushin Zuma in Kaduna and Operation Ride Safe in Bauchi to Operation Shark Smile in Port Harcourt, Operation ABO in Lagos, Operation Sauka Lafia in Abuja, Operation Kasolayo in Ilorin, Operation Kwushi Ihe Mberede in Enugu, Operation Sanity in Osogbo, Operation Total Compliance in Benin, Operation Harbin Kunama in Yola, Operation Hadarin Kalangu in Jos and Operation Daidaita Loading in Zone 10.
In a statement, Public Education Officer Osondu Ohaeri said the coordinated operations reflect the corps’ commitment to tackling specific traffic violations through intelligence driven enforcement, public education, stakeholder engagement and collaboration with other security agencies, with the overall goal of reducing crashes and saving lives.
He said the initiative, approved by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, allows each zonal command to address its own crash trends through targeted enforcement, sustained awareness campaigns, stakeholder engagement and improved emergency response readiness, describing it as a shift from conventional enforcement toward focused, intelligence led operations. He said the operations will involve heavy deployment of personnel to highways, motor parks and loading points, and that the Corps Marshal has warned motorists and commercial operators to comply strictly with traffic regulations or face firm enforcement.
Ohaeri said the operations are not intended to punish law abiding road users but to protect lives and property, and called on the public to cooperate with patrol teams, avoid practices such as overloading, and report reckless driving. He urged transport operators to embrace voluntary compliance, describing road safety as a shared responsibility requiring collective action from government, stakeholders and every road user.
