Police Urge Calm, Warn Against Unverified Claims Over Mary Habila’s Death

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, CSP Nkeiruka Nwode, has appealed to the public to avoid circulating unverified information regarding the death of Mary Habila.

In a statement, Nwode described the death as a tragic loss and offered condolences to Habila’s family, friends and all those affected. She asked members of the public to allow investigators to complete their work rather than drawing conclusions before the facts are confirmed.

She said grief should never be used as a basis for speculation or the spread of unverified claims, adding that no individual should be judged outside the due process of law. She urged that public discussion of the case be guided by verified information rather than rumor, stressing that due process remains essential to achieving justice.

Nwode called for restraint in public commentary while the investigation continues, noting that responsible communication matters in sensitive cases still under review. She offered prayers for Mary Habila’s family and expressed hope that the investigation would establish the full facts surrounding her death.
