The Independent National Electoral Commission says 2,436,275 eligible Nigerians registered during week nine of Phase III of its ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, based on completed physical and online registrations as of July 10, 2026.
The commission said the exercise remains suspended in Osun State ahead of the state’s upcoming governorship election, in line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, and that the released figures are preliminary, pending a cleanup period for claims and objections followed by deployment of the Automated Biodata Identification System. Of the total, 823,324 registrations were completed online and 1,612,951 were completed physically nationwide, with women accounting for 1,278,444 registrations, or 52.48 percent, against 1,157,831 men, or 47.52 percent.
By age, young people between 18 and 34 dominated the figures, with 1,644,885 registrations, or 67.52 percent, followed by those between 35 and 49 at 527,882 registrations, or 21.67 percent, those between 50 and 69 at 240,816, or 9.88 percent, and those 70 and above at 22,692, or 0.93 percent. By occupation, students led with 576,682 registrations, or 23.67 percent, followed by business owners at 513,004, or 21.06 percent, farmers and fishermen at 417,806, or 17.15 percent, and housewives at 389,841, or 16 percent, with artisans registering 123,063, traders 108,785, civil servants 62,012 and public servants 38,803; 25,649 persons living with disabilities also completed registration.
By state, Kano recorded the highest turnout at 182,749 registrations, followed by Edo at 121,554, Lagos at 114,983 and Delta at 108,547, with Taraba at 94,432, Sokoto at 91,207, Ebonyi at 84,118, Jigawa at 79,837, Bauchi at 77,881, Benue at 76,442, Ogun at 75,633, Cross River at 75,131, and both Anambra and Oyo recording more than 71,000 registrations each, with Imo registering 70,087 during the period.
