Nigerian professional Attah Onoja has received a Congressional Proclamation from the United States House of Representatives recognising his contributions to international trade, economic cooperation and diaspora engagement, conferred by Congressman Hakeem Jeffries during the Guyana Independence Celebration Committee of New York’s commemoration of Guyana’s 60th independence anniversary.
According to a statement, the proclamation recognises Onoja’s more than two decades of professional experience across shipping, marketing, distribution and energy, alongside his work strengthening commercial ties between Africa, the Caribbean and the United States, and acknowledges his role as the Nigerian High Commission’s representative to Guyana and his leadership of the African Caribbean Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Industry, through which he has promoted collaboration among governments, businesses and institutions. The statement said the recognition reflects the growing global impact of Nigerians contributing to international partnerships through enterprise, innovation and institutional leadership.
Responding, Onoja dedicated the honour to Nigerians making positive contributions worldwide. I accept this recognition with deep humility, he said, it is also a reminder that Nigerians have the capacity to build institutions, create opportunities and strengthen relationships that extend far beyond our borders, adding that he hopes it inspires more young professionals to believe that excellence and service remain the most enduring pathways to global impact. The statement said the award underscores the growing role private sector leaders play in complementing diplomatic efforts by promoting investment and cross border collaboration, describing Onoja’s recognition as an example of how sustained professional excellence can earn international acclaim while enhancing Nigeria’s global image.
