The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has presented prosthetic limbs and assistive devices to 78 beneficiaries as part of its ongoing Prosthesis Provision Exercise aimed at restoring mobility and improving the quality of life of workers who sustained workplace injuries.
The presentation took place in Abuja on Tuesday, where the Managing Director of NSITF, Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, commended the commitment of all stakeholders involved in the successful implementation of the programme.
In a statement issued by the Fund’s Deputy General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Alex Mede, Faleye, who was represented by the Executive Director (Operations), Mojisola Alli-Macaulay, said the programme, which commenced in April 2026, had been successfully completed following extensive monitoring by the Claims and Compensation Department.
He noted that beneficiaries were comprehensively assessed, fitted with appropriate prosthetic devices, trained on their use, and discharged after satisfactory evaluation.
“I am pleased to report that the prosthesis provision exercise has now been successfully concluded. All identified beneficiaries under the approved programme have been assessed, fitted with the appropriate prostheses, trained on their use, and discharged after satisfactory evaluation,” Faleye said.
He added that beneficiaries who could not participate due to reasons such as inability to establish contact, refusal to attend after notification, or death were replaced with individuals from a supplementary list to ensure the programme’s successful completion.
According to the NSITF boss, the intervention covered various categories of prosthetic devices, including above-knee prostheses, hip disarticulation prostheses, above-elbow prostheses, trans-humeral prostheses and silicone partial hand prostheses.
Faleye also praised the cooperation of prosthesis providers, employers, beneficiaries and members of the monitoring team, noting that their collective efforts contributed significantly to the success of the exercise.
He further disclosed that service providers demonstrated flexibility in addressing special clinical needs, including the provision of hip disarticulation prostheses where required.
Also speaking at the event, the General Manager, Claims and Compensation, Mrs. Nkiru Ede-Ogunnaike, said beneficiaries underwent a comprehensive rehabilitation process, including clinical assessments, measurements, prosthetic fabrication, fitting, gait and functional training, evaluation and final discharge.
She explained that all beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the quality of services rendered, adding that discharge letters, warranty documents and satisfaction forms had been completed and filed accordingly.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Solomon Sunday, an employee of Zodoson Industries in Abia State, expressed gratitude to the NSITF, describing the intervention as life-changing.
According to him, many of the beneficiaries had battled depression and frustration following their workplace accidents before receiving the prosthetic devices.
“We are deeply grateful to the Fund for giving us our lives back. You can see how excited and happy I am as a young man who can now look forward to a brighter future. The Fund has also given me the opportunity to acquire a new skill to earn a living. We sincerely appreciate NSITF for changing our stories,” he said.
The prosthesis provision programme forms part of the NSITF’s commitment to providing compensation, rehabilitation and social protection for workers who suffer occupational injuries and disabilities.
