Minister of Education Tunji Alausa is set to lead discussions on the achievements, reforms and challenges facing Nigeria’s education sector under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 Education Summit organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria, scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at the Barcelona Hotel in Wuse II, Abuja.
ECAN Chairman Chux Ukwuatu said the summit, themed Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector, will bring together policymakers, education experts, academics, development partners and media professionals to evaluate the administration’s education reforms and explore strategies for tackling the sector’s remaining challenges. He said the gathering, organised by the umbrella body of accredited journalists covering education across print, broadcast and online media, will also serve as a platform for policy dialogue while recognising individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to advancing education in Nigeria, with Alausa expected to formally declare the summit open before an audience drawn from government institutions, educational agencies, academia, development partners, school administrators, researchers, civil society, student bodies and the media.
Among those set to be honoured at the event are Alausa himself, National Universities Commission Executive Secretary Abdullahi Ribadu, Tertiary Education Trust Fund Executive Secretary Sonny Echono, National Examinations Council Registrar Ibrahim Wushishi, and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Registrar Ishaq Oloyede, recognitions ECAN said reflect the honourees’ visionary leadership, outstanding contributions to educational development and commitment to advancing human capital development in Nigeria.
