The Obidient Movement has accused Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo of releasing manipulated CCTV footage in an attempt to criminalise Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi, framing the episode as part of a broader pattern of political persecution by the APC against the former Anambra State governor.
In a statement from its Media and Communications Directorate, the movement called Keyamo’s release of the airport footage poorly edited propaganda, alleging the minister deliberately distorted the video to mislead Nigerians about the circumstances of Obi’s recent airport incident, describing it as the latest in a series of desperate attempts to criminalise their principal through a heavily edited clip riddled with distortions. The group disputed Keyamo’s specific claim that Obi’s vehicle sat unattended for 30 minutes before being clamped, arguing the timestamps on the minister’s own footage contradict that account, showing the vehicle arriving at 20:28 and being clamped at approximately 20:34, six minutes, not thirty. Unable to stretch six minutes into thirty, the group alleged, the minister resorted to a clumsy editing trick, zooming into the moving seconds display in an apparent attempt to make viewers mistake it for the minute hand, calling it astonishing that a serving minister would rely on such amateur manipulation.
The movement also challenged Keyamo’s claim that Obi’s vehicle blocked the terminal entrance, arguing his own footage shows a different vehicle pulling up and stopping comfortably behind Obi’s without any obstruction, evidence the group says completely undermines the allegation and fails to support the minister’s own narrative.
