A coalition calling itself the Accord Alliance Movement, also known as the Movement for New Nigeria, has formally reaffirmed its support for Gbenga Joel Olawepo Hashim as the Accord Party’s presidential candidate for 2027, launching a new political coalition it says is built to mobilise support nationwide.
At the movement’s inauguration in Abuja, Director General Light Adah Adoko called the event a defining moment in the group’s political journey, alleging that certain forces within the Accord Party are trying to undermine internal democratic processes by obstructing Hashim’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate. Adoko argued the movement views Hashim as the party’s sole legitimate presidential aspirant, insisting any attempt to deny him the nomination would amount to eroding internal party democracy, and said the Accord Alliance Movement was born specifically to defend democratic values and the aspirations of members who believe in a transparent, credible political process.
Adoko also delivered a pointed vote of no confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, criticising what he called its inability to adequately address insecurity, economic hardship and the rising cost of living, arguing Nigeria needs a new direction built on accountable leadership, national unity and inclusive development. He described Hashim as a longstanding democracy advocate whose political ideals resonate with Nigerians seeking change, and urged movement members and Accord Party supporters to stay united behind building a broad based political platform ahead of 2027, pledging that the newly launched movement would embark on nationwide grassroots mobilisation to strengthen participation and back the party’s candidates through the election cycle, expressing confidence it would grow into a formidable political force dedicated to restoring hope, peace and prosperity in Nigeria.
