Fifteen first-term state governors have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and endorsed the continuation of his Renewed Hope Agenda beyond the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the governors held in Birnin Kebbi and read by the host governor, Nasir Idris.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson to Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf joined his counterparts in expressing confidence in the Tinubu administration and its ongoing economic reforms.
The governors, drawn from Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Ondo, Taraba, Delta, Ekiti, Kogi, Benue, Ebonyi, Edo and Plateau states, said their support was rooted in the need for policy continuity, courageous leadership and stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and the states.
They acknowledged the economic sacrifices being made by Nigerians, describing the current reforms as necessary measures to address long-standing fiscal and developmental challenges confronting the country.
According to the communiqué, the reforms are aimed at stabilising the economy, restoring public finances, attracting investment, improving productivity and strengthening national security.
The governors urged Nigerians to remain patient and look beyond the temporary hardships associated with the reforms, expressing optimism that the policies would ultimately deliver sustainable economic recovery, shared prosperity and democratic stability.
On security, the governors expressed concern over the persistent threats posed by terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and attacks on schools across the country.
They pledged to strengthen collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers and local communities to improve security and safeguard lives and property.
The governors also condemned the abduction of schoolchildren and other forms of criminality disrupting education, economic activities and public safety, reaffirming their commitment to supporting efforts to restore peace in affected communities.
They further condemned reported attacks and hostility against Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa, calling on the South African authorities to protect law-abiding residents, ensure justice for victims and uphold the rights of foreign nationals living in the country.
