Suspected herdsmen killed fifteen people and injured several others in a predawn attack on a farming community in Mbajir Ward, Katsina Ala local government area of Benue State, an assault Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned as a senseless attack on innocent citizens, directing security agencies to act quickly against those responsible. In a statement from his office, Alia said he was deeply troubled by killings that came just as local farmers had returned to their fields, and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
