The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has condemned reports that some tertiary institutions are delaying or refusing to refund students whose tuition had already been paid before NELFUND disbursements arrived.
In a statement in Abuja, Director of Strategic Communications Oseyemi Oluwatuyi also expressed concern over reports that some institutions had arbitrarily raised tuition and other charges.
She said the student loan scheme, introduced by the Tinubu administration, was meant to remove financial barriers to higher education, not to create extra burdens for students.
Oluwatuyi said NELFUND was engaging the affected institutions and relevant authorities to ensure eligible students received refunds and that fees and charges remained fair and transparent, reaffirming the fund’s commitment to protecting students and the integrity of the scheme.
