Peter Obi Urges Youths to Embrace Leadership, Donates ₦15m to Madonna University

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerian youths to prepare for leadership and actively participate in shaping the nation’s future through integrity, competence, and democratic engagement.

Obi made the call during his visit to Madonna University, Okija Campus, where he addressed students at the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative themed, “Beyond Now: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders.”

Speaking after the event, Obi said the interactive session provided an opportunity to engage with students on the challenges facing Nigeria and the role of young people in driving national transformation.

According to him, the students raised thoughtful questions reflecting the frustrations of many young Nigerians over poor governance and corruption, which he said have limited opportunities for the country’s youth.

Despite these concerns, Obi said he was encouraged by the optimism and determination displayed by the students to contribute to building a better Nigeria.

He stressed that quality leadership remains the most important factor in national development, noting that effective leaders must possess character, competence, capacity, and compassion, while demonstrating a willingness to make sacrifices for the good of the people.

Obi added that Nigeria’s future depends on leaders who are committed to protecting lives, investing in education, creating economic opportunities, and strengthening public institutions.

He urged the students to take their education seriously and prepare themselves for leadership roles, encouraging them to see themselves as agents of change rather than passive observers.

The former presidential candidate also encouraged young Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process by supporting leaders with integrity and the capacity to move the country forward.

As part of his continued support for education, Obi presented a cheque of ₦15 million to Madonna University to support the institution’s educational programmes.

He described investment in education as one of the most effective means of developing the human capital needed for sustainable national development.

Obi expressed optimism that by nurturing a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders, Nigeria could achieve lasting progress and build a more prosperous future.
