First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has voiced confidence that, given sufficient political will, Nigeria will overcome the difficulties confronting it.
Speaking at the State House after being invested as Grand Matron of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, she acknowledged the organization’s humanitarian work and argued that no challenge was insurmountable where there was a strong will to do right by the country, describing governance as a daily call to duty.
She urged greater use of voluntary organizations to reshape the mindset of young people by drawing them into active participation, reasoning that those who learn to help early would find it natural to keep doing so in later life.
Mrs Tinubu said she viewed the Grand Matron role as a call to greater service and encouraged anyone with the means to assist a neighbor to do so. She added that her office had launched a National Food Bank Program across the six geopolitical zones to curb child malnutrition.
Red Cross National President Oluyemisi Adeaga, who led the delegation, thanked the First Lady for her humanitarian work through the Renewed Hope Initiative and her dedication to the welfare of women, children and vulnerable Nigerians.
