The ruling All Progressives Congress has lost another senator, as the lawmaker representing Kebbi South, Garba Musa Maidoki, formally defected to the African Democratic Congress, citing unresolved internal crises.
Maidoki announced his defection in a letter read on the floor of the Senate, a move that alters the chamber’s political configuration and underscores realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
“The All Progressives Congress has not exhibited its slogan of justice, peace and unity, particularly in Kebbi State during the just concluded primary elections,” he said, adding that the ADC would better serve his constituents.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided, appealed to Maidoki to reconsider, insisting there was no crisis in the Kebbi APC. “If you allow me, I can come in to reconcile you,” he said, before withdrawing after procedural concerns from other lawmakers.
