Ekiti Goes to the Polls With 1.059 Million Registered Voters and 97 Percent PVC Collection Rate

The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that 1,059,360 voters are registered for the June 20 Ekiti State governorship election, a net increase of 71,713 from the 987,647 registered in 2023, with 1,028,929 of them having collected their Permanent Voters Cards, representing a collection rate of 97.1 percent.

INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education Mohammed Haruna said the figures reflected the outcome of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise conducted in the state before its suspension on May 15, 2026 and the subsequent cleaning of the voters register. He said the PVC collection exercise was originally scheduled to close on June 11 but was extended to June 14 following stakeholder consultations in Ado-Ekiti.

On replacement cards, Haruna said 14,406 applications for replacement PVCs were received within the stipulated window and all 14,406 cards were printed and made available, with most already collected. He said the option of a downloadable digital copy for lost, damaged, or defaced cards could not be implemented for this election because the necessary technology infrastructure had not yet been completed, but that the option would be available for the Osun governorship election in August 2026 and the 2027 general election.

The commission said a full breakdown of PVC collection by local government area had been published on its website and social media platforms.
