Troops Arrest 46 Suspected Illegal Immigrants in Ogun State

Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), have arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants in Ogun State during a coordinated security operation.

The suspects were apprehended following actionable intelligence during an operation that commenced on June 11, 2026, across Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and neighbouring communities.

According to preliminary findings, the individuals were allegedly residing in the area for about six months without valid immigration documentation.

Security sources said the suspects identified themselves as merchants and workers linked to QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities.

The arrested individuals comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal. The group includes 36 males and 10 females.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, for further investigation and appropriate administrative action in line with existing immigration laws.

The Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and collaborating agencies for what he described as their professionalism and vigilance during the operation. He also urged residents to remain security conscious and report suspicious movements to relevant authorities.

The operation underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb illegal migration, strengthen internal security, and safeguard national interests across the country.
