Ogun APC Picks Adegunwa-Balogun as Deputy Governorship Candidate for 2027 Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has selected chartered accountant, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun, as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.

Her emergence comes two months after the party endorsed Senator Solomon Adeola as its governorship candidate.

Adegunwa-Balogun was nominated during an APC Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday.

A native of Ososa in Odogbolu Local Government Area, Adegunwa-Balogun is the daughter of prominent industrialist Alhaji Sulaiman Adegunwa, founder of Rite Foods Limited.

Announcing the nomination, Governor Dapo Abiodun said the party arrived at the decision after careful consideration of several factors, describing the APC’s candidate selection process in Ogun State as a model for other states.

The governor commended aspirants who stepped down in support of the party’s consensus arrangement, assuring them that the party would reward their loyalty and commitment.

According to him, some of those who complied with the consensus process have been considered for appointments as commissioners, special advisers, and special assistants in line with the party’s commitment to inclusiveness.

Speaking on the choice of Adegunwa-Balogun, Senator Adeola said he had known the deputy governorship candidate for more than 27 years through her husband, a former three-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He disclosed that she emerged from a pool of 17 women who indicated interest in the position and were considered qualified for the role.

Adeola praised Governor Abiodun for his role in the selection process, noting that the governor provided valuable support and leadership in ensuring a peaceful and rancour-free consensus arrangement and primary process.

“I appreciate the governor for the guidance and leadership he has provided in the affairs of the party and for ensuring a smooth and harmonious process,” Adeola said.

In her acceptance speech, Adegunwa-Balogun expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun, Senator Adeola, and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in her.

She pledged not to disappoint the party and promised to work closely with the governorship candidate to advance the development of Ogun State.

The deputy governorship candidate also described her nomination as a demonstration of the party’s commitment to inclusiveness and broad participation in governance.

She assured party members and residents of the state of her dedication to supporting policies and programmes that would promote growth and development across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections.
