Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has declared his administration on high alert against the spreading wave of insecurity across Nigeria and unveiled plans to deploy technology-driven security solutions to protect residents, saying the state would not wait for criminal elements to arrive before taking action.
Abiodun, speaking at an APC strategic meeting at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, described the growing threats of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping across the country as deeply concerning and said his government was committed to preventing Ogun from becoming a target by taking proactive preventive measures before threats materialized rather than responding reactively after incidents occurred.
He said schools and educational institutions were receiving particular security attention, with increased surveillance, deployment of security personnel to strategic locations, stronger inter-agency collaboration, and modern monitoring technology all being used to ensure that learning environments remained safe and free from criminal threat. He said children represented the state’s future and their protection was a non-negotiable priority.
The governor said his administration would couple the continued investment in infrastructure with greater emphasis on human capital development and social intervention programs designed to cushion residents against the economic pressures that made communities more vulnerable to criminal recruitment and destabilization. He said the dividends of democracy needed to be felt across all segments of society rather than concentrated among the already advantaged.
Abiodun also praised APC members in Ogun State for conducting primary elections without crisis or rancor, describing the peaceful process as evidence of political maturity and discipline, and said party structures would now shift their focus to mobilization and preparation for the 2027 general election cycle.
