The Kogi State Government has imposed an immediate ban on commercial motorcycle operations across designated hinterland corridors of the Bunu District in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area and restricted all movement on state roads after 7 p.m. daily, describing the measures as necessary to sever logistics and supply lines to armed criminal elements who remained trapped in forest areas following a successful security operation that repelled a recent attack on Iluke community.
In a statement by Information Commissioner Kingsley Fanwo, the government said intelligence and operational reports confirmed that several attackers had been neutralized following the Iluke attack while others sustained injuries and were surrounded in forested terrain as security clearance operations continued. It said the restrictions were designed to prevent local motorcycle operators from serving as supply channels through which the trapped criminals could access food, water, medication, fuel, and reconnaissance support.
The banned corridors covered multiple routes through Idoyi Bunu, Illah Bunu, Iluke Bunu, Kiri, Odai Bunu, Igbo Bunu, Ilogun Bunu, Olle Bunu, Ayede Bunu, Oke-Ofin Bunu, Edumo Bunu, Aherin, Eshi, and Ighun Bunu, with the restrictions applying to all hinterland routes within the district. The Motorcycle Operators Association of Nigeria was directed to immediately sensitize members, with the government warning that any rider found transporting passengers or supplies along the designated routes would be arrested and prosecuted under the Kogi State Anti-Terrorism Law.
Additional measures prohibited the opening of markets along affected corridors, suspended mobile medicine vendors from operating in the area, and banned the sale of petrol and diesel in jerry cans across the entirety of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area. The night movement restriction applied to all state-owned roads across Kogi State, requiring all road movement to cease by 7 p.m. daily until further notice.
