Nottingham Forest forward Joy Omewa has expressed her delight after scoring her first goals for Nigeria, describing the achievement as a dream come true following the Super Falcons’ impressive 3-0 victory over Senegal in an international friendly.
Omewa was the star of the show as Nigeria secured a comfortable win at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday, June 8, in what served as the team’s final warm-up match ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The victory completed a successful two-match series against Senegal, with the Super Falcons having edged the first encounter 2-1.
Seeking to assess his squad ahead of the continental tournament, head coach Justine Madugu made five changes to the starting lineup. Omewa was handed a starting role in attack alongside several experienced internationals, including goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.
Nigeria dominated proceedings from the outset, controlling possession and creating the better chances. Omewa nearly opened the scoring in the first half when her powerful effort struck the woodwork. Despite the Super Falcons’ attacking pressure, Senegal’s resilient defence held firm to ensure the match remained goalless at the break.
The second half, however, belonged to Omewa, who rewarded her coach’s faith with a memorable brace to help Nigeria cruise to victory and boost confidence ahead of WAFCON.
Speaking after the match, the Nottingham Forest striker said scoring her first goals for the national team was a special moment she would never forget, describing it as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.
The performance further strengthened her growing reputation and provided a timely boost for the Super Falcons as they prepare to challenge for continental glory in Morocco.
