Dangote Cement Cuts Truck Crashes by 56% Using AI and Telematics in Safety Overhaul

Dangote Cement has achieved a 56 percent reduction in road crashes involving its trucks between 2025 and 2026 through a comprehensive transport safety overhaul centered on artificial intelligence-driven solutions, automated vehicle inspection technologies, and enhanced GPS and telematics systems that enable real-time monitoring of driver behavior while vehicles are in transit.

The Federal Road Safety Corps Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, who commended the company’s proactive safety interventions, said fatalities dropped by 36 percent and injuries reduced by 52 percent over the same period, attributing the improvements to the successful implementation of gap analysis recommendations and safety policies that he described as worthy of emulation by logistics companies across Africa.

Head of Transport at Dangote Cement Murilo Silva said the company had significantly upgraded its transport management systems and introduced enhanced real-time driver monitoring alongside expanded wellness campaigns targeting driver fatigue. He said Dangote Cement had also strengthened engagement with third-party truck operators and drivers through stakeholder forums to reinforce safety awareness and compliance on Nigerian roads.

Between the first quarters of 2025 and 2026, Dangote Cement’s Obajana operations recorded major improvements in specific safety compliance indicators: drug and alcohol testing increased by 245.2 percent, pre-trip vehicle inspections rose by 489.1 percent, and driver training programs expanded by 128.4 percent. FRSC officials are actively involved in training and screening drivers at the Dangote Articulated Vehicle Driving School in Obajana, providing technical support and contributing to the development of safety-conscious drivers.
