The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Jide Idris, has assured Nigerians that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease in the country despite ongoing outbreaks in parts of East Africa.
Idris gave the assurance during a press briefing held at the Central Public Health Laboratory in Yaba, Lagos, where he provided updates on Nigeria’s preparedness and response measures following reports of Ebola outbreaks linked to the Bundibugyo virus strain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
According to the NCDC Director-General, health authorities remain on high alert and are closely monitoring developments in the affected countries to prevent the importation and spread of the disease into Nigeria.
He stated that the country’s public health surveillance and emergency response systems have been strengthened to ensure early detection and rapid response to any suspected cases.
Idris emphasized that there is currently no cause for panic, noting that Nigeria has put in place the necessary measures to safeguard public health and respond effectively to any emerging threats.
The briefing, he said, forms part of the agency’s commitment to transparency, public awareness, and timely dissemination of information on public health issues.
He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, follow health advisories, and rely on information from official sources while the NCDC continues to monitor the situation and coordinate preparedness efforts nationwide.
The NCDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the health and well-being of Nigerians through continuous surveillance, risk assessment, and collaboration with relevant national and international health partners.
