The family of former Minister of Power and leading APC governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons by suspected kidnappers in Ibadan.
According to a statement issued by the family on Wednesday, Mrs. John-Paul, 43, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were kidnapped by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while she was on her way to drop the children off at school.
The victims were reportedly taken away by the assailants during the incident, which has sparked concern among family members and residents.
Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Before her voluntary retirement last year, she worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and later with First Bank Pension Custodian. Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who resides in the United States.
The family said security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified after the incident and have commenced investigations.
“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible,” the statement said.
Adelabu and other family members described the development as distressing but expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims.
The family appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from sharing unverified information that could compromise ongoing rescue efforts.
They also called on anyone with useful information that could assist investigators to contact the appropriate security authorities.
The family said it would continue to cooperate with security agencies and provide updates as the situation develops.
