Foundation Sues INEC Over Alleged Failure to Release Forensic Report on X Account Linked to Amupitan

The Foundation for Digital Justice, a non-profit organisation, has filed a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its alleged failure to release the details of a forensic investigation into an X (formerly Twitter) account said to be linked to Joash Amupitan.

The suit, marked FHC/LAG/CS/890/2026, was lodged at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

According to court documents, the organisation is seeking disclosure of the identity and report of the forensic cybersecurity expert reportedly commissioned by Independent National Electoral Commission to investigate the account in question.

The Foundation for Digital Justice, a digital rights advocacy group, argues that the failure to release the information raises concerns about transparency and accountability in the handling of cyber-related electoral matters.

The disputed X account is allegedly linked to Joash Amupitan, although the nature of the alleged connection has not been independently verified.

INEC has not yet publicly responded to the suit or the specific allegations contained in the filing.

The case is expected to test the extent of public access to digital forensic processes involving electoral investigations and online identity verification in Nigeria.
