First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Tells APC Women Leaders Politics is About Numbers, Donates Eight Buses

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the president, told women leaders of the All Progressives Congress from across the country that political success was fundamentally about numbers and not about gender, urging them to build lasting connections with the grassroots if they hoped to win and retain the trust of voters ahead of 2027.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja, where she hosted APC women leaders, the First Lady said politicians who disconnected from the people who put them in office after winning elections typically lost relevance and found themselves unable to win again. She described her own record of holding town hall meetings every quarter for eight consecutive years as a senator as evidence that sustained grassroots engagement was both possible and strategically necessary.

She counselled the women to build relationships that lasted beyond campaigns, saying supporters responded positively to leaders who remembered and respected them. She also urged them to balance their public responsibilities with family life, saying she had managed both for twelve years in active politics while maintaining her family.

APC National Women Leader Mary Alile Idele praised the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative and said the APC women’s wing remained one of the strongest mobilisation networks in the country, with women leaders across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, local governments, and wards playing a central role in the party’s electoral success.

The First Lady donated eight buses to women leaders from different zones of the country to support their outreach work.
