Police Service Commission Disowns Fake Recruitment Shortlist Circulating on Social Media

The Police Service Commission has described as fake a purported recruitment shortlist circulating on social media that claimed to contain the names of candidates shortlisted for medical examination as part of the ongoing constable recruitment exercise, warning applicants not to act on it and cautioning the public against fraudsters exploiting the process.

In a statement by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs Torty Njoku Kalu, the commission said it had not released any official shortlist for the next stage of the exercise. It said the evaluation of the written examination was still in its concluding stages and that invitations for medical examination would be sent through email, SMS, the recruitment portal, and the commission’s other verified communication channels when ready.

The commission reiterated its commitment to a merit-based recruitment process, noting that the effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force depended significantly on the quality of personnel recruited. It warned applicants to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudsters, and confirmed that the exercise remained completely free at all stages.

The recruitment process for 50,000 constables was launched in December 2025 following a directive by President Bola Tinubu aimed at strengthening community policing, enhancing internal security, and expanding the Police Force’s manpower.
