Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has emerged as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election after securing 368,230 votes in the party’s primary election held across the state.

The Labour Party successfully conducted its primaries for the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly positions, with party leaders describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible.

In a statement following his emergence, Otti expressed gratitude to the Labour Party Primary Election Committee, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by the Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sylvia Agu, as well as party stakeholders for ensuring a smooth electoral process.

The governor also congratulated all candidates who secured the party’s tickets for various elective offices across the state, urging them to begin the task of engaging voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Otti, emerging as candidates marks the beginning of a new phase of political engagement, stressing that elections are ultimately about service, responsibility and earning the trust of the electorate.

He called on party members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation and reach out to Abians across political divides in a bid to strengthen the Labour Party and advance development in the state.

Meanwhile, Otti expressed sadness over the death of Kanayo Uzuegbu, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia.

Describing the late police chief as a dedicated public servant, the governor said his passing was a significant loss and extended condolences to his family, colleagues and the Nigeria Police Force.

Otti reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Abia State, pledging that with unity, discipline and dedication, his administration would continue to build on its achievements and deliver good governance to the state.
