Israel on Thursday carried out airstrikes on the southern Lebanese city of Tyre after issuing evacuation warnings to residents in the area.
The Israeli military said it had begun targeting infrastructure linked to Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group operating in southern Lebanon.
In a statement, the Israeli military said it was “compelled to take forceful action” against Hezbollah and urged residents located near specified buildings in Tyre to evacuate immediately.
Authorities instructed civilians to move north of the Zahrani River, warning that remaining in the designated areas could place their lives at risk.
“The IDF has begun striking Hezbollah infrastructure in the area of Tyre,” the military said in a statement posted on Telegram.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that two waves of Israeli strikes hit Tyre and surrounding areas east of the city on Thursday morning.
According to the agency, one of the strikes hit a building in the city, triggering a fire.
The latest escalation comes amid continuing tensions and cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah along the Lebanon-Israel border.
