Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected armed bandits during a tactical operation in Taraba State.
The operation, carried out on May 24, 2026, followed intelligence reports of gunshots in a forest near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District of Donga Local Government Area.
According to military authorities, troops swiftly mobilised to the area and launched a coordinated raid based on the intelligence received.
On reaching the location, the soldiers reportedly encountered armed suspects, leading to a gun battle during which two of the suspected bandits were killed.
Security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones and other personal belongings from the scene.
Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for what he described as their professionalism and swift response during the operation.
Akaliro urged the soldiers to maintain the operational tempo in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to intensify efforts against criminal activities across Taraba State.
He also disclosed that the military’s reward and sanction policy would apply to personnel involved in the successful operation.
The brigade commander reassured residents of Taraba State that the military remains committed to sustaining pressure on criminal groups until peace and security are fully restored across the state.
