Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume has urged All Progressives Congress members and stakeholders in Benue State to set aside personal ambitions and present a united front at the party’s presidential primary, pledging that the state would deliver strong support for President Bola Tinubu.
Akume made the appeal on his arrival at the Makurdi Airport, speaking to reporters ahead of the primary scheduled for the following day. He said the president’s performance, patriotism, and inclusive approach to governance had earned him strong standing across the country and that Benue State would reflect that support at the ballot.
He expressed concern about reports of electoral material diversion during earlier state-level primaries held in Benue that week, describing the accounts as disturbing. He said he had not been present during those exercises and was therefore cautious about commenting in detail but called on party officials and security agencies to investigate the incidents and hold those responsible to account.
The SGF called on aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to pursue their concerns through dialogue and reconciliation rather than actions that could fracture the party’s structure in the state. He said the founding vision of the APC had always been unity, and that internal divisions would undermine the party’s prospects in 2027.
