Dangote Industries Limited has commenced preliminary activities for the Olokola Deep Seaport project, a multi-billion-dollar maritime and industrial infrastructure initiative at the Olokola Free Trade Zone spanning more than 10,000 hectares across Ogun Waterside and Ilaje local government areas along the Gulf of Guinea coastline, as the group begins community engagement ahead of construction.
Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics Capt. Jamil Abubakar led the company’s management team, accompanied by land surveyors, estate valuers, and environmental consultants, to visit host communities in Ode-Omi in Ogun State and Araromi Seaside Kingdom and Igbokoda town in Ondo State, describing the port as a strategic gateway that would transform host communities and Nigeria’s export capacity.
He said the project would facilitate the export of fertilizers, petrochemicals, and refined petroleum products while supporting future LNG exports and the importation of industrial equipment, and would serve as a logistics gateway for an integrated industrial ecosystem strengthening Africa’s maritime trade and regional commerce.
The Lenuwa of Ode-Omi and the Alara of Araromi Seaside Kingdom both expressed enthusiasm for the project and pledged community support. The company also paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda, where the acting commanding officer pledged naval cooperation. The project forms a central part of the Dangote Group’s Vision 2030 expansion agenda.
